Penguin Novice Series #1

This past Saturday, November 7, five Sliver Tide athletes from both JAG and YD groups competed at Penguin Series #1. It was a great experience for all involved, and all of the athletes did an exceptional job racing at the meet. Matthew, Jennifer and Kathleen were our JAG representatives and competed in all four 50's and 100 IM. Here is a meet summary for each of the swimmers:

Matthew: Matthew is a very determined and focused swimmer. He pays very close attention to feedback and is always striving to improve on his technique. This was displayed this weekend in all four strokes that he raced. Not only was he swimming fast he looked beautiful while doing it. I was constantly impressed with the technical improvements he was displaying through his races. Matt had some killer underwater which we know is very important in our races! He has started to tackle the timing of his breath in butterfly, and is really pressing forward with his kick in breaststroke! Keep up the excellent work Matt. You're commitment and determination is really paying off!

Jennifer: Jennifer also displayed some excellent technical advancements in her strokes. The timing of her breath in butterfly is improving, which is something we have been focusing on lately in workouts! Streamlining past the flag off of all of the starts and turns was a strategy we employed in all of the races. Jennifer did an excellent job of this in her 50 backstroke! Her breaststroke is also looking very good; she was very good at finishing her stroke with a strong kick and had beautiful body position. Jennifer had a fantastic meet! Keep it up!

Kathleen: Kat had been sick in mid to late October and had to miss quite a few practices; despite this leave of absence from swimming she did a spectacular job racing this weekend. She is very concentrated on technique in practice and is constantly seeking technical feedback. This was apparent in her racing this weekend. Her streamlines have shown great improvement since the beginning of the season and she didn’t breath off her walls in freestyle on the first couple strokes! The timing of her breath in butterfly has also improved and has had a positive impact on her butterfly! Keep focusing on those technical improvements Kat; you’re doing an excellent job!

Overall, the JAG’s had outstanding performances at the penguin novice series #1! I am looking forward to the racing we have ahead of us at the Poppy swim meet! Go Silver Tide!

Silver Tide Halloween Practice!

On Saturday October 31 Silver Tide held a team practice with the entire club from Junior Development to the Senior group. This was a great team bonding experience for our crew and an excellent opportunity to get some technical help from the senior swimmers. The practice started off with splitting into three teams; the silver bullets, tide to go, and the fearless tide! The swimmers chose their team names and then had time to come up with a team cheer. All three teams did an excellent job creating team cheers and chanting them out for the rest of the groups; needless to say Silver Tide will have some fantastic cheers to do at the upcoming swim meets! After the cheers were done the swimmers got in to do some technical work for freestyle and backstroke led by coach Chris. The senior swimmers demonstrated and proceeded to give helpful tips to our younger swimmers as they did the drills. To end off the workout the three teams competed in ten different relays that were fun and required some strategy to complete! It was a great day at the pool. Silver Tide is an awesome team to be a part of! I want to thank the JAGs for coming out and participating in such a wonderful team event.
